The Description

Kids are naturally curious.  They love to explore and inquire about the world around them.  I can help kids reinforce the concepts of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math by planning hand-on lessons around these areas.  Our project, Superhero STEM, will allow my student to ask, imagine, plan, create and improvise by conducting different scientific experiments; based on different superheroes. The money needed for this project directly impacts their learning by providing them the items needed to complete this type of hands-on inquiry.

During this experience the students will rotate to different superhero stations. Each station will be based on a different superhero.  At the Wonder Woman station the students will re-design her airplane. Can they make a better plane? Can they make one that flies further? Does the type of paper used make a difference in the length of flight? Lots of wonderful inquiry going on here! The second station is the Ironman station.  Students will make magnetic slime and explore the properties of it.  The third station is the Superman station, where the students will discuss objects that fly.  They will design and create their own boomerangs.  This helps them develop deductive reasoning skills and causes them to reflect and evaluate their work.  The last station will be the Spiderman station.  In this station the students will create a sticky spider web and deduce what will stick to it and why or why not.  All of these activities lend themselves to inquiry, planning and creating, which are key concepts to reinforce STEM. So let's ignite their curiosity!

About the Creator

I am a Kindergarten teacher in Missouri. I have been teaching for 20 years. I have taught 5th grade, 6th grade and 2nd grade - but Kindergarten fits me best! My students are inquisitive children who learn best by being involved in hands-on experiences. These experiences allow my students to work together collaboratively and expand on their communication and critical thinking skills. Your support of our project will help encourage these students to grow in these areas. Thank you!
