What better way to examine the relationship among organisms and food webs than through the observation of owl pellets? How can students see the internal organs and body systems of animals except with true dissection?

With these funds I will be able to provide students a class set of set of 30 safety goggles, 30 lab aprons, 50 owl pellet dissection kits and 50 frog dissection kits from Carolina Biological Supply Company to enhance our life science curriculum. These materials are essential in conducting lab investigations that support our 7^th grade science curriculum, spark curiosity, and allow students a deeper understanding of our world.

At KIPP Courage College Prep, we are building in students the academic skills and character traits necessary to go to and through college. The mission of our school is to see that all students, regardless of socioeconomic status, are given an excellent education to prepare them for college and life. The equipment that can be bought through this cause will supplement our inquiry-based teaching model and foster a love for science and discovery among our students. 

The safety goggles and lab aprons are reusable items that provide students the equipment necessary to safely conduct labs every week. The safety goggles set costs $112.00 and the class set of lab aprons are $175.00. The set of owl pellets costs $160. The costs of 4 frog dissection kits is $231.60. The remaining funds will be spent on forceps and scalpels that are necessary in completing the dissection lab.

My stellar group of 96 students are curious, engaged and willing learners. Contributions to this cause will support my students’ desire to learn, explore and discover science through real-world application and investigation. 

On the first day of school, an eager student ran up to me and asked, “Ms. Robinson, are we doing dissections this year?” I can’t wait to go back to my student with a resounding “Yes!
